If you have found a product in China but are not ready to commit to a large order, a trial order is usually the next step.
The key questions are practical: Can the supplier accept your quantity? Can you add a logo? Do you need a sample? What will shipping cost? Can the goods be checked before shipment?
If you already have a product photo, link, specification or sample, send SML Supply your sourcing request with your expected quantity, customization requirements and destination country. We can check the workable order conditions before you commit to larger production. Can I Start With a Small Trial Order?
Often, yes, but the workable quantity depends on the product.
Ready-stock items may allow smaller orders because the goods or materials already exist. Custom products may have higher minimums because of materials, colors, printing, molds, packaging or production setup.
This is why the right question is not simply:
“What is the MOQ?”
It is:
“What is the smallest practical quantity for the product I actually want?”
If your target quantity is below the normal MOQ, we can check whether using an existing color, standard material, simpler packaging or another production option can make the first order workable.
Can I Add My Logo or Custom Packaging?
In many cases, yes.
A small first order may still support simple branding such as printing, embroidery, engraving, labels, hangtags, stickers or branded sleeves.
Fully custom packaging, custom colors or newly developed components may require higher quantities.
For a first order, it is often better to separate:
- what must be customized now
- what can wait until repeat orders
This keeps the project closer to your target quantity without removing the branding that matters most.
Do I Need a Sample Before Ordering?
That depends on how much needs to be confirmed.
For an existing wholesale product, a standard sample may be enough.
For a private-label product, you may need to approve the logo, packaging or color.
For a newly developed product, sample revisions may be necessary before bulk production.
The purpose is not to add extra steps. It is to confirm the details that would create a costly problem if they were wrong in production.
When you send us the product, we can determine whether a sample is necessary and what type of sample is appropriate.
How Much Should I Order First?
Do not increase the order only to get the lowest unit price.
A larger quantity may reduce unit cost, but it also increases inventory risk and cash tied up in stock.
At the same time, an extremely small order may make customization and freight inefficient.
The practical first quantity depends on:
- your acceptable inventory risk
You can also send us your preferred quantity even if you are unsure whether it is achievable. We can check the closest workable option.
Can You Check Quality and Combine Different Suppliers?
Yes.
A first order is not only about getting the goods. It also tells you whether the supplier can meet the agreed requirements consistently.
SML Supply can coordinate quality control based on the product, specification, quantity, logo and packaging requirements. If you are buying several products from different suppliers, we can also review consolidation options so the orders can be coordinated before export.
This is useful for retailers, distributors and buyers building a mixed-product shipment instead of importing only one SKU.
Can You Quote Shipping or DDP?
Yes, once enough shipment information is available.
A reliable shipping quotation normally requires:
- destination country and postcode
- whether the goods contain batteries, liquids or other restricted components
Shipping cannot be calculated accurately from the product name alone.
If the supplier has not finalized packing data yet, we can first estimate the sourcing and production side, then confirm shipping once the order details are clear.
What Should I Send for a Trial Order Quote?
You do not need to prepare a long sourcing document.
Send us:
Product — photo, link, drawing or specification
Quantity — your expected first-order quantity
Customization — logo, color, packaging or other requirements
Destination — country and postcode if available
Timeline — when you need the goods
From there, SML Supply can check the supplier options, MOQ, customization, sampling, pricing, quality-control requirements and shipping information relevant to the order.
If the product already exists, we can focus on the fastest workable purchasing route.
If it requires customization or development, we can identify what must be confirmed before production.
Ready to Test Your First Order?
If you already know what you want to buy, you do not need to contact multiple factories first.
Send us the product and your target quantity.
We will review whether the order is better suited to ready stock, private labeling or custom manufacturing, and identify the next practical step.
